MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the Alonso High School Band program is to provide all students with the opportunity to learn an instrument and create unforgettable musical experiences. The band program seeks to make a positive difference in the lives of each member through the pursuit of musical achievement and positive peer relationships, while teaching and instilling confidence, humanity, self-awareness, responsibility and discipline.

Good morning RB families!!


Please see below for an important announce regarding our final fundraiser for the year!!


LET'S GET MOVING!


For our final fundraiser of the 2020-2021 school year, we will be hosting the 1st Annual Raven Band Run/Walk/Bike 5K! For its inaugural year, this will be a virtual 5K but we hope to make it an ongoing in-person event next year and beyond! Registration is now open! The 5K itself can be completed any time between April 30 and May 9! Time to get out and enjoy the beautiful Florida spring while supporting our outstanding band students!


A portion of the funds raised will go towards your students band fees and the remainder to the band boosters to be put towards the trailer. SENIORS this is your LAST opportunity to earn money towards your band account for the year! As participants register, they will be asked which student they are supporting. You can also create your own fundraiser within the race (much like SnapRaise where you created a specific link directly to your student). There is also an option for a flat donation for anyone who doesn't want to participate in the 5K but would love to support your student and the band.


ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A RAVEN BAND FUN RUN TSHIRT!


The registration fees are as follows: 


$25 for an individual ($10 goes towards your students band account)


$40 for a group of two ($15 goes towards your students band account)


$60 for a group of three ($20 goes towards your students band account)


$75 for a group of four ($35 goes towards your students band account)

Good morning Raven Band! See below for important updates about this week – only 3 weeks until our final concert on May 4th! We have lots of exciting events coming up including the release of scale assessments/audition info for next year, leadership due dates, percussion and dance auditions and more! Please be sure to check the calendar regularly to stay on top of your schedule :)

LEADERSHIP APPLICATIONS DUE THIS WEEK: Leadership applications are live on alonsobands.com for next year. Be sure to read the leadership requirements carefully which includes the necessary recommendations needed. All aspects of this year's Leadership Application will be submitted electronically.  Looking forward to seeing the next generation of Raven Band leaders! Drum Major audition info coming soon.


DANCE TEAM AUDITIONS: Please continue encouraging Alonso friends to be a part of our dance team! Auditions are next Tuesday and Wednesday April 20th and 21st from 5:30-7:30!


PICTURES FOR THE TRAILER: Band families, we are still in need of high-resolution pictures of our band in action to add to our band trailer. Please feel free to reach out to alumni from previous years for pictures also. We want to feature as many aspects of our exceptional band program on our trailer – concert, marching, jazz, dance, etc. Please send to myself or alonsohighschoolbandboosters@gmail.com Thank you to parents who have been sending in memories!


STATEMENTS: Statements for students with a balance have been mailed. We are asking that all activity and rental fees be paid (or arrangements made) by May 1st to ensure no one has a balance going into next year. Please email Amanda.griffis@hcps.net to make a payment arrangement or discuss your CHARMS account. Seniors - these balances/arrangements must be paid by your last day or diplomas will be withheld.


SUMMER CAMPS! Yay summer camps!! I am asking that ALL of our band families seriously consider sending your band and/or dance student to one of the many Florida band and leadership summer camps.  Summer band camps not only offer your child the opportunity to keep their playing chops up over the summer, but also to make new friends, lifelong memories and to come back next year as a more empowered and confident young adult. Below are the links to two IN PERSON (yay!!!) options for this summer. Leadership members are expected to attend at least one leadership camp over the summer. Be sure to read camp info carefully, especially the May 1st audition deadline for band/jazz camps.

RAVEN MARCHING BAND CAMP 2021
July 25 (Sunday) thru July 29 (Thursday) - Band Camp from 12:00pm to 8:00pm; First hour will be for check-in on Sunday the 25th. 
August 3 (Tuesday)  - 4:00pm to 8:00pm  
August 5 (Thursday) - 4:00 to 6:00pm, then parent performance and a parent meeting right after.  Please mark your calendars - lots of good information will be shared.

It Takes a Village.....

Hands-on help from friends and family of our band program and it's members are critical to the success of our band programs.  Year-round there are many areas where extra hands, smiles, teamwork and all-around support are needed especially during fall marching season.  Some areas include the annual band banquet, carpentry projects, chaperoning, collect parking fees, fundraising, game day meals, homecoming events, special events at the school, loading/unloading equipment, transporting equipment, photography, provide water/gatorade, senior night events, uniform alterations, and more.


Hillsborough County Schools requires those who volunteer complete a volunteer registration process before being permitted to volunteer. It should only take (5) minutes to complete.

Spirit Shop & Car Magnets

We now have Raven Band hoodies, parent shirts, windbreakers, hats and other items to show your support for our band program and students.  Visit the Spirit Shop and the Car Magnet sites to place orders to show your support for our bands.  New band spirit items will continue to be added including parent polos and more. 


Orders can picked up by band students during the school day or after rehearsals. eLearners can coordinate with Mrs. Griffis to pick up their orders in the main office.
