As you may have heard following yesterday’s rehearsal – the Raven Band is taking over NOLA! We are so excited to start planning for our spring trip set to take place on Wednesday March 23rd - Saturday March 26th! This email contains a TON of information, including some action steps for family’s interested in participating!!
There will be a REQUIRED informational meeting on Wednesday November 10th at 6:30 for all families interested in learning more about the spring trip. This meeting will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams.

What: Spring Trip to New Orleans, Louisiana
When: Wednesday March 23rd – Saturday March 26th
Why: This trip serves as an educational reward for all the hard work our band members have done this year. This is also an opportunity to learn more about the music history of the jazz medium in America and explore sights and sounds related to New Orleans jazz. The Alonso Jazz ensemble will be putting on once in a lifetime performance near Jackson Square.
Who: Any current Alonso Raven Band member and/or HCPS Level 2 Certified parent/guardian (as of the time the trip takes place) who:
-is in good standing with the director (i.e. overall good rehearsal attendance, grade, no disciplinary issues, etc.)
-is in good standing with Alonso High School and administration (i.e. no disciplinary issues with the school, referrals, good daily attendance)
-is in good standing with the Alonso Band Boosters (up-to-date on all activity, miscellaneous and rental fees through this current school year, participates in fundraisers, etc.)

Registration: Registration has already begun for our trip to New Orleans!! You will need to visit the GreenLight trip website: https://greenlight.grcoll.co/go/ahs22no to create your account, input insurance information, and submit all payments for the trip moving forward. Spots will fill up fast! Registering for the trip does not mean you are committed. Commitment is “locked-in” after the first payment is submitted on November 17th.
Payments: The following payment deadlines will be used for our trip. These are tight deadlines that cannot be changed or modified. All transactions are done through Greenlight…not AHS Band Boosters.
1st Payment Due: November 17th 2021
2nd Payment Due: December 7th 2021
3rd Payment Due: January 7th 2022
Final Payment Due: February 7th 2022
How much is the trip? The trip cost varies depending on whether you book a quad, triple, double or single room and how many band students/chaperones sign up for the trip. We have quite a few fundraisers on the schedule to alleviate out-of-pocket costs for the trip. A detailed price breakdown can be found on the attached itinerary. The more students/chaperones that attend, the lower the cost of the trip. Your fourth payment will be adjusted based on the number of attendees so ideally the fourth payment will be lower than what is currently projected right now.
Is everyone guaranteed a spot on the trip? Not necessarily - Alonso Band students get first priority on our spring trip. Adults outside of the 10:1 chaperone requirement are not guaranteed a spot on the trip. This will be discussed in more detail at the parent meeting on Wednesday.
Trip Insurance: ALL BAND FAMILIES ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO PURCHASE TRIP INSURANCE UPON REGISTERING FOR THE TRIP. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR MONEY BACK IF A SITUATION ARISES. BE SURE TO READ TERMS AND CONDITIONS TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH FILING CLAIMS AND DETERMING WHICH SITUATIONS FALL UNDER FULL MONEY BACK GUARANTEES. All monetary transactions are done through GreenLight – NOT Alonso Band Boosters. Families using CHARMS credit are not guaranteed a credit reimbursement if they do not have the TripMate insurance policy.

Should I do anything before the parent meeting next week? Yes.
- Register for the trip by following this link. https://greenlight.grcoll.co/go/ahs22no . Don’t forget to check that you want the trip insurance policy when asked. You are not committed until you submit your first payment.
- Chaperones should glance over the Hillsborough County Level 2 Volunteer certification procedures found here: Volunteer Services / Hillsborough County Public Schools Volunteer Information (hillsboroughschools.org) and go ahead and submit their volunteer application and set up an appointment for Level 2 fingerprinting with the district as soon as possible. Only Level 2 parents/guardians are allowed to attend the trip. All adults attending the trip are chaperones whose first priority is to monitor the safety and well-being of our Alonso band members throughout aspects of the trip.
